Get to Greening

Let’s face it, kids are the change-makers of the world. When they come home from school with a mission to sell cookies, earn a badge or feed the poor, the whole family gets involved. So kids, are you out there? Let's get greening.

Be our eyes, ears and voices. Look at the world around you. At home, get your family started with a few simple changes.

Shrink the Waste:

At dinner time, encourage the family use smaller portions when they make their plates so there is less waste. Less food waste, means less there is waste for garbage trucks to haul and for barges to float. A clean plate means less waste.

Be a Water Warrior:

Make it your mission to prevent wasting water around the house. Keep the water off when you brush our teeth or wash dishes. Don't let the shower run until you're ready to get in. When Dad's washing the car, turn off the hose while he’s sudsing and turn it on only for rinsing. All that water washing down the street is fun for the raccoons in the sewers but bad for your water bill and wasteful for Long Island.

Be a Power Aid:

Save energy by encouraging everyone to charge their phones, PDAs and other devices in the evening, and unplug them when they're done rather than leaving them plugged in over night to charge. These simple changes will lower the electric bill, and will help preserve the battery life of your favorite devices.
