“Every business owner needs to understand that eco-friendly policies can be wallet-friendly at the same time,” asserts David Finkel, Executive Vice President of Davis & Warshow, Inc. “Use less fuel, spend less money. Use more efficient lighting, spend less money.”In business since 1925, the Maspeth company supplies kitchen and bath products to designers, contractors and homeowners from the Hamptons to Westchester. Today, with more than 200 employees in 11 locations, Davis & Warshow is mindful of growing business in a way that’s easy on the planet. So, the company recently launched a “Practically Green,” program to cut back on electricity, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase recycling in all their locations. They’ve even enticed employees to go green.

About a third of their workforce participates in the “Carpool Incentive Program.” By ridesharing, biking, walking or taking mass transit to work, employees have the chance to win cash prizes in quarterly drawings. The annual top prize was $5,000. “It was a great morale booster and got people excited about an environmental issue,” Finkel explains.

Other elements of their “Practically Green” program include using recycled paper and soy ink for printing in their offices. And, in working with customers, the company offers eco-friendly kitchen and bath options—high-efficiency toilets, low-flow showerheads and heating products that save consumers money while conserving energy.

One of the proudest accomplishments to date for Davis & Warshow, Inc., is their contribution in planning and building the new, expanded warehouse and showroom in Farmingdale, which is LEED certified.

Congratulations to our August GreenLeader.
