LIRR Going your Way

We’ve always been about moving the greatest number of people, using the least amount of energy. Of course when we started 250 horsepower meant 250 horses. Today we save Long Islanders more than 400 million gallons of gas and an estimated billion dollars every year while keeping tons of pollutants out of the air.

We’re doing a few other things, too. Our newest electric trains conserve energy, and new composite third rail is easier to handle and install and requires less voltage. At our repair shops, we’ve added more windows instead of more lamps. Our cleaning staff use environmentally friendly cleaning products, free of toxins and harmful chemicals. And we use recyclable office products.

Better still, we’re bringing green transit to Long Island communities with projects like the Mineola Intermodal Center and the Jamaica/AirTrain hub that link rail, bus and light rail systems in clean, comfortable and accessible environments. It’s all about making Long Island a better place to live and work.

Take the Train to Long Island's Colleges,
Universities or Hospitals

If you are traveling to one of Long Island’s fine universities or colleges, or premier hospitals, why not take the train? The Long Island Rail Road provides frequent service with convenient bus or taxi connections from many of our stations.

It’s also the greenest way to go because when you take the train instead of your car you help protect the environment by keeping tons of pollutants out of the atmosphere.

Going to LI MacArthur Airport? Why not take the train? With the Long Island Rail Road’s discount package to Long Island MacArthur Airport, you get one-way rail fare to Ronkonkoma Station and Colonial Transportation* shuttle to the airport.

The Long Island Rail Road's Ronkonkoma Branch offers frequent service from Manhattan, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties direct to Ronkonkoma Station. From Ronkonkoma, it's a ten-minute taxi or bus ride to LI MacArthur Airport

Colonial Transportation - convenient shuttle van service is offered every half-hour from the north side of Ronkonkoma Station. Airport pick-up is located in front of the baggage claim area.
