The Sustainability Institute at Molloy College
Molloy College recently launched The Sustainability Institute, Long Island’s first-ever venture combining sustainability education and policy analysis within an academic institution. The Sustainability Institute, led by Executive Director Neal Lewis, will provide community education on key issues related to sustainability and “green” living, as well as policy analysis and recommendations. There will also be a student education component that will begin in Fall 2009 with the incoming freshmen at Molloy.

Serving as a Model for State Action

• Clean Energy Task Force – Encourages local governments to lead by example by adopting clean energy technologies and practices.
• Long Island Energy Roundtable – Provides a forum for leading environmental groups to meet and exchange ideas on energy issues.
• Long Island Interfaith Environment Network – Helps places of worship reduce their energy consumption and overall environmental impact.
• “Green papers” providing analysis and fostering debate on major sustainability issues affecting Long Island.
• Brochures and other educational materials for the community, on issues ranging from energy efficiency to organic lawn care to non-toxic living.
